Dermal Fillers
What are Dermal Fillers?
As we age, the level of hyaluronic acid in our skin depletes and fat redistributes. This causes the skin to lose volume and begin to sag, creating wrinkles. Dermal fillers restore lost volume and smooth out wrinkles. Over time, dermal fillers can begin to stimulate the body’s own production of collagen and elastin to generate lasting effects.
Dermal fillers are traditionally used to plump an area in which volume has been lost, for example the cheeks or lips. The hyaluronic acid in the dermal filler binds to water and create a ‘plumping’ effect. Having fillers actually puts back the lost hyaluronic acid into your skin, stimulates the collagen and strengthens the elastin fibres making the skin look wow and youthful again.

Naturally-derived fillers (the most widely known is hyaluronic acid) have a much smaller risk of causing an allergic reaction but reactions can occur. Results are immediate but will only last from just three to 18 months (occasionally up to two years) because the filler eventually breaks down, taking the results, for better or worse, with it. Once the filler starts to dissipate you need to go back in and get more filler injected to maintain results. Most people who get fillers will need at least one follow-up injection within a year.
Aside from allergic reactions, fillers also have risks of lumping and migration, although this is infrequent. On the other hand, because the results last a short period of time, as do potential problems.
Lip Fillers
Lip fillers are a massive trend at the moment, whilst big lips are requested by younger girls, we think the best look is when an older lady that is losing volume in her lips has a soft filler put in just to give the lips a good shape removes the lines and makes them look youthful again.
Marionette & Nasolabial Areas
The marionette lines and nasolabial folds are the lines above and below the mouth. Through ageing and excessive facial movements these lines can become deeper. These deep lines can create a down turned mouth and an expression of constant unhappiness. It is very simple to plump these areas and the best part is about dermal fillers is the visual results that can be stunning!
Cheek Enhancement
As you age one of the first areas to lose volume is the cheeks. The skin loses elasticity and does give you a gaunt look. Adding volume back into your cheeks has made dramatic results to a lot of our clients and is a really effective anti-ageing treatment. You can also build up your cheeks bones with this treatment.
Building up your cheek bones has become very popular among the younger generation as higher cheeks bones can be viewed as a sign of beauty. Building up the cheek bones can also help raise the jowels and give a much more defined jaw line.
Jaw Lift (with filler)
We have 3 options for treating the jaw area, and which option we take depends on a case by case basis.
- For saggy skin due to volume loss, we recommend Radiesse, Subskin or Revolax SubQ that will put the volume back into the skin
- Profhilo turns creapy, old skin into young and smooth looking skin
- However, if the jaw is sagging due to the skin losing elasticity, Botulinum toxin is a better option as it will tighten and lift the jaw, which the fillers cannot do
